Michelle Ann Key was born Mischell Mae Warren in Ames, Iowa. Her biological mother died when she was 2 months old, and she was adopted by Roy and Evelyn Key, friends of her mother, on May 28th, 1969. Her name was changed to Michelle (spelling) Ann (after her biological mother's middle name) Key. Her three older siblings, were later adopted by another family. Michelle grew up knowing about her background, and knew her biological siblings. In 1983, the Keys moved to Rogers, Arkansas. In 1988, Michelle met her first husband while studying in Graz, Austria. They married in Austria, and lived there until they returned to Arkansas in 1990. Their daughter was born there in 1991. A year later, they divorced, and her ex-husband returned to Austria. In 1994, Michelle married her second husband. Their son was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas. They lived there until 2013, when they moved to Boulder, Colorado.
