Young was born in 1832. He was the son of George Warren and Rebecca Young. Baptised William Young Warren in 1832 at Drumcliffe Church.
Young emigrated to New Zealand on the Shalimar, in 1862, with George Young and Susan Young, his cousins, followed by his younger brother and sister later.
Young worked in the gold fields and then bought a shop in a prestigious street in Auckland, New Zealand.
He passed away in New Zealand in 1908.
