Biography

John King was born on 15 February 1770, son of Isaac King. He was married prior to 1792 to Mary Elizabeth Ward. Mary was born on 27 February 1769.

On 17 July 1824, John and Mary and daughter Phebe “received on certificate from Cincinnati M.M., Ohio dated 1824-6-24.”[1]

On 25 March 1829, “John disowned for associating with others in holding meetings set up contrary to discipline.”[2]

In 1830, John’s household in Wayne, Wayne County, Indiana contained five free white individuals:[3] 1 male aged 20 to 29 (Dean) 1 male aged 60 to 69 (John) 1 female under age 5 1 female aged 15 to 19 1 female aged 60 to 69 (Mary)

John reportedly died on 31 December 1830 in Wayne County, Indiana.

On 26 August 1850, Mary was living with her youngest son Dean, his wife, and that couple’s nine children - Mary, Calvin, Almira, Louisa, Levina, Edward, Henry, and Sarah- in Union township, Clinton County, Ohio.[4]

Mary reportedly died on 30 July 1850 in Clinton County, Ohio.

John and Mary are buried in either Earlham Cemetery or King Cemetery in Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana.[5][6]

John and Mary (Ward) King were the parents of eight children:

i. PHINEAS LONSBURY KING was born on 15 September 1792.
ii. THOMAS W. KING was born on 30 November 1794 in Dutchess County, New York. He died on 8 March 1873 in Kansas.
iii. SARAH KING was born on 2 December 1796.
iv. LEVINAS [Levinus] KING was born on 8 March 1797 in New York.
v. MARY KING was born on 18 February 1801.
vi. EURETTA KING was born on 30 March 1805 in New York. She was married to Edward Conner.
vii. DEAN KING was born on 28 March 1805 in New York. Dean was married to Esther Carpenter.
viii. PHEBE KING was born on 5 November 1807.
