Biography
Mary was born about 1835. She passed away in 1892, according to family information passed on through generations. Findagrave lists earlier dates,1826 birth, and 1885 death, in Little Rock, Arkansas, buried on the grounds of the Arkansas State Mental Hospital, which closed, with the Game and Fish now on those grounds. Mary Lewallen has a tombstone at Cedar Grove Cemetery near Charlotte in Independence County. She stacked rocks, according to her many descendants who lived nearby, and some piles were still in place for many years during lives of the present inhabitants of Cedar Grove community. She was active in Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist church, and when she had her emotional or mental breakdown, or illness, she was disfellowshipped for speaking harshly.

Cathy (Fleetwood) Landers
A story that I heard about Mary Wann Lewallen was that she had emotional problems as she approached midlife. She died in the Arkansas Mental Hospital in Little Rock and was buried on the grounds. She has a very old tombstone at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Independence County, AR.
