Biography
Sam was born in 1896. He passed away in 1967.
In 1900, the Walters family was living in Rankin County, Mississippi.[1] The 1910 US Census finds then 13-year old Sam and his family in Smith County, Mississippi.[2]
In June of 1918, Sam registered for the draft for WWI. He was then living in West Carroll Parish, Louisiana. He listed his wife, Talitha, as a dependent. He was described as being of medium height and weight with blue eyes and black hair.[3]
The US Census of 1920 documents Sam, his wife Telitha, and infants James and Jesse, living in Richland Parish, Louisiana. Telitha's brother, Frank Palmer age 12, was also living with them.[4]
Telitha and Sam divorced. Sam then married Clora Batey. Clora passed away in 1936 and Sam married Ann Hamilton before 1940. In 1940, Sam and his wife Ann were living in Grant Parish, Louisiana, with Sam's youngest daughters, Ruby and Katie, who were ages 6 and 4.[5]
In 1942, Sam registered for the draft for WWII. His family was living in Wisner, Louisiana, then and he registered for the draft in Franklin Parish. He was described as 6 ft. 3 inches tall with a medium build and ruddy complexion. His eyes were blue and his hair black.[6]
