Charles was born about March 7, 1877, in Ninety Six in Greenwood County to Thomas Waller and Sinai Baccus.[1][2]
In the 1880 census Charley was in Cooper, Edgefield, South Carolina, United States with his parents and siblings and a number of aunts and uncles.[3]
In 1897 Charles would enter Benedict College graduating from there in 1908 with a Bachelor's degree as well as a DD. He interrupted his schooling for a period of two years to return home to help his family.[1] In 1900 he is shown as working on the family farm in Fellowship.[4]
On September 11, 1907, Charles would marry Bertha Nix of Orangeburg. They would have five children, four of whom survived infancy.[1]
In 1910 Charles and Bertha, along with their one-year-old son, Clarence were living with Bertha's parents, Nilson and Sylvia Nix, on E Aurelia Street in Orangeburg.[5]
From Orangeburg, Charles was called to Beaufort, SC where he would serve at the First African Baptist Church for 3 years. In 1914 he served as Dean of Theology at Morris College in Sparta. The family then moved to Bennetsville where he served at Shiloh Baptist Church and erected a parsonage.[1]
Charles died of influenza on September 8, 1919, in Greenwood County, He was a married farmer. The informant was Thomas Waller of Ninety Six.[2] He was buried at Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.[6]
