Hello Neil,

I am learning but have hit my first real problem. Apologies bother you but I need advice.

After searching for "Ralph Cope Hopton" there were no matches so I created a profile Cope_Hopton-7 without any problems and linked him to his father Sir Richard Cope Hopton, again no problems. The father Richard had added "Cope" to his name after marrying Elizabeth widow of William Gregory died 1702. She was the daughter of Thomas Geers whose wife, also Elizabeth, was the daughter of William Cope. I have the detail, not all on Wikitee but it is "Pre-1700". While looking at entries on "Hopton" (again to see what was already recorded for the family) I came across a Reverend Ralph Cope Hopton recorded as "Hopton-73". He has the same dates/place of birth + family detail as the Ralph I have entered. I have sent a message to the Profile Manager (response awaited) and put a comment for the Ralph I entered. Should I do anything else while awaiting a response?

Regards, Isabel

Hello Neil,

After adding comments as a way of adding/correcting detail to familiarise myself with the wiki system, I realised it would make almost zero impact on existing content. I decided I would have to get to grips with how to correct/change existing entries as well as add new entries. For good reason, the 1700 project makes that difficult for newbies. After going through the detail again (and there is a lot of it!) I came to the conclusion, to raise my pre-1700 "reputation", I would have to add enough new individual profiles to raise my total "events" to above 50. I deliberately included one entry without the birth date (known but pre-1700). After a pause I shall try to add that pre-1700 date to one of my entries to see what happens.

Thought I should just tell you what I am up to! Will come back if I get stuck. Isabel

Shirley ~ WikiTree Greeter

Dear Shirley,

I am not certain whether my reasons for being here are correct. I am not looking for relatives or my ancestors but for the relatives of the sitters in a pair of rather good portraits I happen to own. They are a Reverend and his wife, painted in about 1810. A note in the back of each frame identifies them and I probably know who some of their relatives and descendants were. I am interested in confirming the my findings, filling some gaps and sharing what I have learnt with others

So my question, is this a valid/acceptable reason for using Wiki Tree? With thanks, Isabel Smith, nee Waller.

Isabel,

You are welcome to add any individuals to WikiTree for whom you have sources and documentation. They do not need to be relatives/ancestors of yourself. WikiTree appreciates any efforts made to build our global, shared family tree. And thank you for wanting to add information about the individuals in portraits that you own. I'm sure any relatives will be happy to see what you can add.

Shirley
