Biography

Abby was born in around 1832 in Maine. In around 1850 she married James P. Bartlett, the son of John Hill (Sr.) and Phebe (Burbank) Bartlett. They had two children:

William Pitt Bartlett (1855–1929)

Eliza F. Bartlett (1858– )

At some point after 1860 Abby and James were divorced. She is next noted in 1870 living with her children in New Jersey.

In 1880 Abby and her son William had moved west to Livermore, California, where they bought a faltering newspaper and renamed it the Livermore Herald. William pushed the area to bring in new settlers and became highly thought of in Livermore as he made a success of the paper.

By 1900, Abby was living in Soquel Township, Santa Cruz County, California. She was 68 years old by this time. No further records have been found.
