Mary Wakefield, the daughter of John Wakefield and Ann Unknown, was born 21 August 1645, and baptized 24 August 1645. On 27 October 1663 she married Ebenezer Dibble, the son of Thomas Dibble. With Ebenezer she had 5 children: Mary, Wakefield, Martha, John, and Ebenezer. On 28 June 1677 she married James Hillyer, the son of John Hillyer of Simsbury. With James she had one more son, James. Mary died 24 September 1703.[1]
[Ebenezer Dibble], of Windsor, Conn. ... was killed in King Philip's war, 1675-6, leaving his family in impoverished circumstances, as will be seen by the following postscript to a letter written by Mr. Jones, of New Haven, to Governor Leet, reprinted in the Journal of the Council of Safety. (Trumbull's Col. Rec, of Connecticut.) "Sir: I pray be pleased what you can to favor and further the bearer, Widow Dibble, that her husband's estate may be settled. He was killed at the Swamp fight; died in debt more than his estate. Twere a work of mercy to consider the poor widow and fatherless children."[2]
