Just joined, so I’m not fully experienced with adding info to any profile. Regarding Johann Martin Andreas and comments in the profile about Muehlhausen: the current French city of Mulhouse has in the past been known as Mülhausen which is the German name for the same city. The city is part of the Alsace region and is situated on the Rhine river, an important transportation route to the North Sea. The original Alsatians spoke a dialect of German, as did the local Swiss.
From 1515 until 1798 the city was part of the Swiss Confederation and a Calvinist republic. These are important facts for understanding why the Andreas ancestors emigrated to a German-speaking colony in Pennsylvania, and were not especially French. The Alsace region did not become part of France until Napoleon decided to take it.
Since Mulhouse/Mülhausen was part of Protestant Switzerland, the Edict of Nantes would not have affected its residents, as evidenced by the fact that the Andreas clan emigrated fully 64 years after the edict.

I have Jakob Schäfer's father as Johann der Altere Schaeffer and his mother's first name was Catharina. I hope it helps.
