The son of Adam Wagner Jr and Martha (Ritter) Wagner, William Wagner was born in Union County, Pennsylvania in 1836, residing with his family in West Beaver Township.[1]
William married Sophia Machamer (1830-1906), the daughter of Johann Jonas Machamer and Maria Schwenck, having eight known children together:

William and his family made their home in Union Township, Pennsylvania, in Mifflin County, where he worked as a sawyer.[2][3] By 1900, William, his wife, and his son, Nathaniel, and Nathaniel's children, lived in Shirley Township, Pennsylvania, farming.[4]
William Wagner passed away in Shirley Township[citation needed] at the age of 71 and is buried at Saint John's Lutheran Church cemetery in Belleville, Pennsylvania.[5]
