Hope Masterton Waddell was born in Monaghan, County Monaghan on 14 November 1804. He was the son of Alexander Waddell and Susan Hope.
Hope married Jessie Simpson in 1829, and they went to Jamaica to work as missionaries to slaves in Cornwall County. They left Jamaica in 1834 due to Jessie's health.
Hope worked in Calabar from 1846 to 1858.
Hope died in Dublin on 18 April 1895, and was buried in Mount Jerome Cemetery and Crematorium, Harold's Cross, County Dublin.[1]
