Biography

Matteo Vintaloro is born around 1873 in Corleone, the son of Vincenzo Vintaloro and Nicolena Ligotino.

Matteo marries Maria Concetta Vincenza Salerno, daughter of Giovanni Salerno and Domenica Badami, on 28 January 1900.[1]

Matteo and Maria Concetta have seven known children: Nicolina (c. 1900), Domenica (c. 1902), Concettina (c. 1905), Vincenzo/James (c. 1911), John (c. 1913), Angelina (c. 1914), and Jamie (c. 1920).

Matteo appears on Line 10 of the manifest of the Nord America, arriving 27 October 1905 in New York. He is 32 (b. 1873) and married. He is joining his brother Gaetano at 240 E. 109th St in New York. [2]

In 1913, Matteo's cousin, Leoluca Nicolosi, joins him at 241 E 108th St in New York.

In the 1915 New York state census, taken 1 June, Matteo Vintaloro, 42 (b. 1873), heads a household at 234 E. 106th St. with his wife, Vincenza, 37 (b. 1878), and children Nicolina, 15 (b. 1900), (all born in Italy) (rest of family on next page). Matteo is a brick layer; he has been in the US for ten years (imm. 1905). Nicolina works in a shirt waist factory. Vincenza and her three oldest have been in the US for 4 years (imm. 1906).[3]

Domenica and Concettina were born in Italy and the younger children in the US. Also in the household is nephew Joseph Badami, 25 (b. 1890), born in Italy, a shoemaker. The family is repeated part way down the page without the nephew.

Note: Although Joseph is called a nephew in the census, he is a cousin to both Matteo and Vincenza. Matteo Vintaloro and Joseph Badami are cousins, once removed. Joseph Badami and Matteo's wife, Vincenza Salerno, are [cousins].

Vincenzo, called James by this time, is arrested in 1928 for felonious assault. He is affiliated with the Lucchese crime family.[4]
