John and Fanny celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary on Saturday 24 September 1932. News Article: "Mr and Mrs John Varney, of Loch Street Coburg, celebrated their diamond wedding on Saturday. Mr Varney, who is 86 years of age, is one of the earliest living pioneers of Gippsland. He was born on the Tanjil in North Gippsland, but spent most of his life in Foster. Mr Varney's grandmother came to Australia with the original settlers as nursemaid to Governor Phillip's children." [5]
