Garret married abt. 1741 to Annetje Bergen born 12 March 1709/10, a daughter of Hans Jacobse Bergen and his wife Sarah Rapalje.

Page 222.-GARRET COUWENHOVEN, of township of New Utrecht, Kings, NY. unto Nieltie, the widow of my son Necasie, deceased, while his widow. If she marries again, then only the things she brought as her outset at her marriage, and oe50 out of my personal estate. At her death or remarriage, unto my granddaughters, children of my said son, Antie, Geertje, Sarah, Elizabeth, and Nieltie, the 60 acres of cleared land in NU, follows description, the remainder to my grandson, Garret Couwenhoven; bounded northeasterly by Yellow Hock; as soon as he is of lawful age, shall pay oe60 to his sister Antie, and like sums to each of his sisters, Geertie, Sarah, Elizabeth and Nieltie. Unto my son Johannes all that farm or plantation in said township, whereon he now lives, which I bought of John Rapelje. Unto my daughter Sarah, wife of Martin Schenk, the plantation in the Jersey on the North Branch in Sommerset Co. All my negroes, with my household furniture, the one-third to my son Johannes; a like part to my daughter Sarah; the remainder part to the children of my deceased son Necasie. My farming utensils, stock of horses and cattle unto my son ohannes and my grandson Garret in equal shares. I make my son Johannes, and my friend Art Van Pelt, son of Petrus and my daughter Sarah, executors.
Will Dated May 9, 1781. Wit., Petrus Van Pelt, John Verkerk Van Nuys, yeoman, and Nicholas Couwenhoven, Esq, both of Kings County. Proved, February 5, 1784.
His will (1781) mentions "all my negroes," but does not give their numbers or names. They were to be divided between son Johannes, daughter Sarah, and the children of deceased son Necasie (aka Nicasie or Nicholas).
