In the Griffiths Valuation of Ireland [www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/] (started 1840, published over 17 years 1847-1864) the Upritchard-Uprichard-Bridget surname group is concentrated in the Lurgan_Gilford area of Counties Armagh and Down. Publication of the Valuation cast the spelling of many names almost in bronze but changes did occur as evidenced in later valuations and other documents. If the correct people have been identified from old documents, particularly church registers, my family has changed from Oprichard to Uprichard to Bridget then back to Uprichard and finally Upritchard, as in the valuation. I therefore hypothesise that these surnames can be linked by Y-DNA as well as by proximity.

My project is to to encourage Upritchard, Uprichard, Pritchard, Bridget and other like surname males to do y-DNA tests to establish genetic links between the surnames. Next step would be to determine the number of generations back to a common ancestor(s) - with some expert help !. If we pick up autosomalDNA and mtDNA clues along the way and get sidetracked, so much the better.

Regrettably there is no common file download format agreed on by all DNA analysis companies to enable DNA profile sharing, so additional tests need to be done with companies such as Ancestry in case cousins have tested with them. I have found it extremely difficult to determine exactly how many testing companies there are, but when you start digging, there are a lot.

My apologies to everyone who offered help in these posts. I had no idea this communication system even existed and it was only by accident, when I flicked up a bit hard on the iPad that I came across it.

I am an avid WikiTree G2G reader and really enjoy the comments, but the rest of WikiTree is rather complicated and lost on me. I don’t monitor my profile and seldom use my WikiTree tree as the DTC sites, particularly MyHeritage, are easier to use. For example, Maria has listed 7 teams, but it is not clear to me which I should join or could assist with. Age is also a barrier, as these communications fade from memory. Many thanks for your kind help. Alan

Hi Alan,

I wrote to you in May about the restructuring of the Ireland Project. I don’t seem to have received a reply. In the circumstance I presume you no longer wish to be a member of the Ireland Project. We’ll be sorry to lose you, but unless I hear from you by the end of July I will delete the active Project member badge from your profile.

Thanks for all the previous contributions you have made to the Ireland Project.

Hi Alan,

The Ireland Project (previously the Irish Roots Project) has now changed its structure into Teams. We require everyone with the Ireland Badge to be a member of at least one Team or Sub-Team and our google group. See https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Ireland for details. The Teams are :-

1. Categories Team
2. Counties Team
3. Managed Profiles Team
4. Membership Team
5. Profile Improvement Team
6. Topics Team
7. Diaspora

? Can you let me know if you’d like to stay on in the new project and which team(s) you’d like to join. Please also let me know your e-mail address so that I can get you added to the project’s Google Group or confirm you are already a member of the google group.

Many thanks,

Maria

Alan

You may have been hard at work getting connected to family members who are already here and adding those who were missing. You probably have at least a few profiles that you manage now.

There's a fast and easy way to access those profiles using the Watchlist. So, this week we're going to look at How to Manage Your Watchlist.

Please let one of us know if you have questions! Just click my name above the comment, then ask in the comment section of my page. We want to help!

Thanks, WikiMessenger Cindy

You've been here for several weeks now! We hope your profiles are starting to come together and that you've enjoyed getting to know us a little better.

You're probably getting a good feel for the collaborative nature of WikiTree by now. We know that collaboration isn't always easy. So, we've put together a few pointers that can make working in this type of environment a little easier: How to be a Successful WikiTreer.

Don’t hesitate to ask questions as that is the only way we gain knowledge!

Thanks, WikiMessenger Cindy

PS Good work so far, keep it up! Have you had a chance to see on your ancestors profiles on the bottom right is "Research" where you can find sources and more information? Give it a try sometime!
