Research Notes

It is possible that she is the Dorcas, daughter of John Swett (abt.1580-1652) and his wife, Phebe (Benton) Swett (abt.1584-1665). This is based on the fact that 10 of the children of John Pearson and his wife Dorcas, had the same names as children of John Swett and his wife Phebe (Benton) Swett. More research is required.[3]

FYI, in a footnote in our recent Keyes-Swett article in The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, we pointed out that the names of this Dorcas's children correspond well with the names of the children of John and Phebe Swett of Newbury (10 of their 13 children had identical names), suggesting that this Dorcas might be their daughter Dorcas Swett (Swett-194). Just speculation at this point, but possibly worth pursuing.

FYI . . . from the "Thurston Genealogies" regarding Deacon John Pearson and wife Dorcas . . . "The Pearson Family are probably of French origin. In the sixteenth century there were religious persecutions in the north of France. In Picardy there were sons of John and sons of Peter who were workers in wool; devout Christians, who fled across the channel. Many of them were called 'Pickards'; hence the names Pickard and Peirson, after that Person, and still later, Pearson. Colonial records spell the name Peirson, which is French for Peter's son."

Many people use Ancestry.com and both the Yates and Edmunds collections on that site have this name. It also populates the unsourced Find a Grave memorial for her. 40043139

The Torrey source is not for this couple; rather it is for her son, John Pearson and his wife Mary

spelled out marriage state name, marked place uncertain; it was possible they married in England (as one source says)

Children Priscilla, Miriam, Hannah and Hepzibah were born when Dorcas was over 60 years old. They are not likely her children

Are there any quality sources that show her LNAB is Pickard? I have only seen her as Unknown last name.
