- The Charlemagne Tower was built around 1000 by Hervé de Buzançais, canon and treasurer of the Abbey of Saint-Martin-de-Tours, the location of the tomb of Luitgarde wife Charlemagne died in 800 during a stay of the Frankish king in Touraine: Charlemagne, very affected by her death, had decided that she would be buried in the Basilica of St. Martin. The Tower was dedicated in 1014.
