Biography

Joan Tyrell, probable daughter of Jasper Tyrell and Anne Goring,[1] was born say 1520 (first child in 1538). She survived her second husband who died in 1558.

Marriages and Children

Joan married (1) Edmund Lewknor, son of Roger Lewknor, Esq. and Anne (…), before 1538 (birth of first child). All but Elizabeth were recorded as baptized at Tangmere[2] and all were named in their father's will (dated 1 March 1544/5).[3] There are several sources for the births of his children. The dates given below are as resolved on this Free Space Page.

  1. Elizabeth Lewknor, baptized (probably) 2 March 1537[/8];[4] married Thomas Stoughton.[5][6]
  2. Thomas Lewknor[7][8] MP,[9] baptized 27 January 1538[/9];[2] married (1) Bridgett Lewes, (2) Ann Hill; died July 1596.[8][9]
  3. Anne Lewknor,[7] baptized 12 May 1540.[2]
  4. Richard Lewknor, Esq.[7][8] MP,[10] baptized 14 March 1541[/2],[2] married (1) Agnes Colpes, (2) Margaret Atkins; died 6 April 1616[10] (Please see his WikiTree Profile for evidence of his first marriage).
  5. George Lewknor, MD,[7] baptized 1 November 1542;[2] died after 2 March 1614 when he was named in his brother Richard's will.[10]
  6. Edmund Lewknor,[7][8] baptized 18 December 1543.[2]

She married (2) John Gunter, Esq. after 1545.[7] and they had one child:

  • Jasper Gunter

Research Note

There's another Magna Carta line for Rose Stoughton if this Joan Tyrrell can be proved to be the daughter of Anne Goring. [orginally citing a thread at http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/GEN-MEDIEVAL/2015-11/1447735504 ] This is now a broken link, but appears to point to the SGM newsgroup, now on Google Groups. The thread can be found here.

FITCH of Little Canfield ~ Part III Gives Joan's birthplace as “Beches, Rawreth, Essex”. There IS a Rawreth in Essex, but nothing shows a place known as Raworth.[11]
