Ralph Waldo Tyler was an African-American journalist, war correspondent, and government official. He was the only accredited black foreign correspondent specifically reporting on African-American servicemen stationed in France during World War I.[1]
Ralph married Carrie Mason on 29 October 1890 in Gallia, Ohio, United States.[2]
The 1900 Census enumerated the young family living in a house with a mortgage at 1028 East Rich Street in Columbus, Ohio. They had been married 9 years and had three children.[3] By 1910, they had relocated to Washington, D.C., where Ralph was employed as an auditor for the US Treasury Department and they were renting a house at 928 7th Street, NW.[4] They returned to Columbus before the 1910 Census, where they were living with their two younger sons in a rented house at 175 Champion Drive, and Ralph was employed as Associate Editor for a newspaper.[5]
He died in Columbus, Ohio, in 1921[6] and is buried in Green Lawn Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio.[7]
