In 1895, at the age of 20 years and 9 months, Jonas applied to join the Amalgamated Society Of Carpenters & Joiners. He was accepted as a single member in March of that year, and had been a carpenter for 7 years. When he married, on 23 September 1899, his membership was amended to reflect this [5]

Jonas sailed from London to Sydney, Australia on board the 'Ballarat', which departed 11 April 1912, he gave his occupation as joiner [9]
His wife Hannah, and their four daughters Lily, Phyllis, Evelyn and Edna sailed out to join him on board the 'Demosthenes', which left London on 3 April 1913 [10]
Jonas had entries in the Sands directory of Sydney, New South Wales, which showed him residing at 37, Wellington Street, Waterloo in 1914 [11]
Jonas died on 4 April 1947, and was buried in the Rookwood cemetery, Sydney, New South Wales [12]
A notice of his death appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald, dated 5 April 1947, and read:
TURTON Jonas April 4th 1947 at Sydney, beloved father of Lily (Mrs Hart), Phyllis, Evelyn (Mrs Pearson), Edna and Edward, age 72 years. At rest. [13]
