I was born in Croydon, England, in 1941, father Bert Turrell, mother Dorothy (nee Boultwood aka Wallis). Father died 1848. Mother remarried Thomas Murphy and we migrated to Australia in 1952, living at first in Victoria and then moving to Western Australia. Adopted the surname Murphy. Grew up in Scarborough, attended Perth Boys School, Perth Modern School, WA University. Early career as a journalist for Weekend Mail, Weekly Post Newspapers in UK, ABC Perth, BBC London, and The West Australian. Manager of Invicta Publications for Sands and McDougall. Self-employed writer/editor/publisher including contract editor of Labor Voice, The Western Teacher, Midland Reporter, Kalamunda Reporter and other publications. Retired and lived at Walpole where I was editor of The Walpole Weekly. Now living Rockingham, Western Australia. Author of two novels and a collection of short stories. Have extensively researched family histories of myself and late wife, Penney Wells. Family names in my family tree include Antill, Burroughs, Cassannet, Corham, Davis, Day, Dean, Freeman, Hessey, Holcroft, Howse, Meadows, Slade, Orphin, Peck, Robinson, Timothy, Turrell, Vincent and Woodbridge on the Turrell side and Ashby, Beaney, Boultwood, Coney, Coppen, Crawford, Dorrington, Durtnall, Fisenden, Izard, Jacks, Jackson, Kingsmill, Moaten, Russell, Popham, and Tomsett on the Boultwood side.
