Robert Turrell was born in about 1793 at Suffolk, England.
He was tried and sentenced at the Suffolk Quarter Session and was one of 208 convicts transported on the "Lady Harewood", leaving on 24 March 1829 and arriving in Van Diemen's Land on 28 July 1829. He was then transferred to New South Wales aboard the "Waterloo" arriving at Sydney on 9 July 1829. He was allocated to work for Thomas Arndell at Caddie Creek. On his Convict Indents, he was listed as married on arrival. It isn't clear if his wife came with him but there were three in his family in July 1829. He received his Ticket of Leave in 1833 [1] and was given his Certificate of Freedom in 1836 [2][3].
Robert married Sophia Jane (Ward) Gardner on 10 June 1844 in the Church of England Church at Wilberforce, New South Wales, Australia [4] and their son Robert Turrell was born on 5 April 1846 [5].
As Sophia died in the district of Windsor, which included the Hawkesbury area and Portland, Lower Portland & Portland Head areas are all part of the Hawkesbury district, the following records would fit where Robert and Sophia (Ward/Gardner) Turrell lived.
There is a death record for a Robert "Terrell", age 50 years, registered in 1848 [6] which would have made his birth year as 1798, not 1793. An Intestate Estate Notice for a "Robert Turrell, late of Portland" where the final figure of money in bank was £14 1s 2d with the date of order to collect being February 2, 1849. As Sophia had died on 7 October 1846 [7].
If this death information is correct, then 2-year-old Robert would have been left without parents.

The Lady Harewood arrived in Tasmania on 28/7/1929 and the Waterloo in Sydney on 9/7/1829 from London so I don't see how he could have been transferred from one ship to another. There is no record at Robert on the Waterloo manifest.
