Mary was born about 1770, most likely near Castlemaine, county Kerry. Her maiden name were culled from the baptismal records of her children as well as her own obituary in Killorglin.
Strong evidence is pointing that Mary Trant Mahony was the daughter of James Trant of Castlemaine, county Kerry. Proven
In 1799, her husband, James Mahony, of Ballygoughtra (near Milltown) in the County of Kerry, Gent, was paid £100 by James Trant of Bellvill in respect of land that Patrick Trant occupies - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSJ4-C9SH-P?i=136&cat=185720. The land include "Clonmore & BallyMcAndy".
In 1792, there's a Will (Diocese of Aghadoe and Ardfert) of "James Trant, gent of Castlemaine" who left his daughter, Mary, "the lands of upper and lower Clonmore otherwise BallyMacAndy" - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-L9LW-G9W1-1?cat=234649
It also mentions an annuity of "12 £" for his other daughter, Joan Trant (who would be Mary Trant Mahony's sister).
In the same James Trant's Will, there is mentions of a sister to himself named "Bridget Grady aka Trant" (who would be Mary Trant Mahony's paternal Aunt). James Trant's Will also mentions his brother "Garret Trant". Garrett Trant's Will mentions his daughter, Margaret Trant. James Trant and Nicholas Trant who are labeled as his "nephews" were most likely sons of Thomas Trant. Most importantly, in James Trant's 1792 Will, Garrett Pierse, Richard Pierse and Thomas Pierse are "nephews".
When the daughter of Mary Trant Mahony (and James Mountain Mahony) married Francis Newton of Milltown, in 1816, "Thomas Pierse" of Meenogahane, Co. Kerry is a witness to the marriage bond [1] [2]. Thomas Pierse is James Trant's nephew; therefore, Mary Trant Mahony's first paternal cousin.[3]
By the time of her daughter's, Clarissa Mahony, marriage to Francis Newton ("the younger" of Milltown"), in July of 1816, Mary Trant Mahony was "widowed" and living in Milltown. [1][2]
husband, James Mountain Mahony, passed away in 1809. Mary Trant Mahony passed away in Killorglin, Kerry, Ireland in 1845.
Mary Trant as "Miss Trant" is mention in a historical account published in the Kerry Archeaological Magazine that was published in 1914: "It also appears that James ("Mountain") Mahony, son of James, the second son of Denis (the first) of Dromore, married a Miss Trant, but we are unable to say who she was. Possibly she was a sister of Peter and Sir Nicholas Trant. There are also some Trant families in Devonshire and Cornwall..."[4][5].
There was a hypothesis based on one secondary source that Mary Trant was possibly a sister of Peter and Sir Nicholas Trant" - they had sisters Mary (1761), Catherine (1772) and Clarissa (probably the Ellen goddaughter of Clara, 1759). Catherine looks to be a good fit with an aunt, sister, and niece called Clara/ Clarissa - and would have been 43 when her own daughter Clarissa married.
Conclusive: Mary Trant Mahony is showing herself as related to many others in the Castlemaine Trant family via her father's Will of 1792 registered in Castlemaine to her daughter's marriage bond.
Originally, she was thought to have been the daughter of Thomas Trant of Dingle, County Kerry but the Castlemaine Trants have been proven by records to be her native family.

I've added a profile for Thomas Pierse of Meenogahane at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Pierse-51 I'm not sure who his father is but I suspect it might be the Garrett Pierse who died at Meenogahane in 1772.
Cheers

I think that niece Catherine Trant, and nephews James Trant and Nicholas Trant are the children of the younger brother Thomas not Garrett. Garrett's will only mentions a daughter Margaret - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-89LW-GPTC?cat=224404
Garrett came to a sudden end: Lim. Chron., 10 July 1793. Tralee, July 5. Death of Mr. Garrett Trant, Castlemaine (allegedly shot by wife Mary). Lim. Chron., 28 August 1793, she was convicted and sentenced ‘to be burned in the hand and imprisoned six months’).
