Pietro Tortorici is born around 1832-35 of unknown parents. There are three boys born of unknown parents baptized Petrus in the 1827-36 index, none with a link to anyone named Tortorici.
The closest match in age is the first born of the three, on 19 May 1835. This child's godparents are Bernardus Cipolla and Calogera Vutrino, who are not married. He is sustained by Cyra, wife of Petro Collura. After this it says, Maria de Monte Carmelo takes the child in to the home of Ignastii di Vas.
Pietro marries Salvatrice Grizzaffi on 3 June 1855. Pietro and Salvatrice have at least two children, Rosario (1858) and Calogera (1860), neither of whom is named after one of Salvatrice's parents. At the birth of his son, Pietro reports that he is a farmer (agricola). He is serving in the Guardia Campestre (this translates as the "Rural Guard") at the time of his death, at age 43.
Pietro and Salvatrice's son, Rosario, is born 18 July 1858 in their home in via S. Giovan Battista, Corleone. He is baptized Rosarium the next day. Pietro, age 26 (b. 1832), agricola, reports his birth. Salvatrice is 19. His godparents are Ignatius and Francisca Gennusa, brother and sister.
Their daughter, Calogera, is born 26 December 1860 and baptized Calogeram the next day. Her godmother is Bernarda Bartolotta.
Pietro marries twice, first to Giuseppa Restivo, a widow, (she dies in 1886) and then to Salvatrice Costa, nubile, in 1887.
A letter accompanying the marriage records of Salvatrice Grizzaffi, his widow, documents his death. Pietro is a Guardia Campestre who dies in prison (bagno penale) in the city of Civitavecchia, in the province of Rome, on 24 July 1877.
The Guardia Campestre at this time are like police or forest rangers, in that they are state regulated, but with the primary responsibility of protecting private property, such as crops, from brigands. Source: Yahoo! Answers (Italian)
The letter describes an atti di morte for Pietro Tortorici, age 43 (c. 1835), Guardia Campestre, married to Salvatora Griffoni, born in Corleone, son of the late Rosario and of Salvatora Alesti. I believe the letter states that, according to this atti, Pietro dies 27 May 1878. The end of the letter, going into the second page, appears to be making a correction: that in fact Pietro Tontorici is the son of unknown parents, not of the late Rosario, etc., and also that his wife's name is Salvatrice Grizzaffi, di Felice, not the other name given. Based on the description of the testimony (recorso anno... jeri) and the date of the death record being described (27 May 1878), Pietro dies on 24 July of the previous year.
At the end of the letter it says that here in Corleone as of 15 November 1883, Salvatrice Grizzaffi is free to marry.
