Iris Vera Isabelle Tompson was born on 19 September 1901 in Claremont, Western Australia, her father, William, was 47, and her mother, Amelia, was 20. She married Hubert D'esterre Minchin on 3 September 1921 in Perth, Western Australia. They had five children in 15 years. She died on 30 August 1981 in Nedlands, Western Australia, at the age of 79.
