James Emery Timmons was born April 19, 1937, on the family farm northeast of Scotia to Oscar “Lee” and Ethel (Williams) Timmons. He was raised on the family farm and attended school at Glendale Country School and graduated from Scotia High School in 1954.

Jim farmed, ranched and was a cowboy all his life. He loved horses and horse sales. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and collecting guns. Jim enjoyed people and visiting. He read the Bible daily, enjoyed going to church and was attending the Burwell Baptist Church near the time of his death.
