Bill Gawthrop here. James Gawthrop, Born about 1830 in Histon, Cambridgeshire, England; Son of Richard Gawthrop and Avis (Bull) Gawthrop
Brother of John Gawthrop, Ann (Gawthrop) Pauley and Mary (Gawthrop) Coe
Question: Do you have any more descriptive data on Richard such as his father, and his fathers dates of birth and death?
The reason I ask is because I can't place him in my listings.
Also, woould you like a copy of the Gawthrop Genealogy as I have it right now?

I'm afraid I can't help you. In the past I've searched for Richard's baptism (in Cambridgeshire) without success. I know there were at least 2 Gawthrop/Gauthrope/etc couples in Histon around this time but there's no record of a Richard that I've seen. I did wonder if he was illegitimate, baptised under a different surname and only took the Gawthrop surname in later life but there are no illegitimate Richards baptised in Histon in this period either. Sorry I can't be more help.
Hi Mick, my paternal line comes from Grimston in Norfolk. As far as I can see mine comes via Happy Twite's illegitimate son George. She's the daughter of Anthony Twite. Do our records interlink at all please?
I've not been able to go back beyond Thomas Twite (Twite-82) who was buried in Great Dunham. I've seen there were various Twites in Grimston but I've never been able to link to them. I guess if I ever find Thomas's parents then there may be a chance (BTW, I'm fairly certain Thomas wasn't the son of Daniel and Diana Twite who was baptised in Holme Hale in 1733 as he was buried the same year).
Best wishes,
Mick
Thanks for your reply. Twites seem surprisingly numerous in Norfolk, I must visit this year. I've got some older records flagged up on Ancestry which I haven't verified yet. Someone has linked a Thomas Twite baptised 18 March 1696 in Scarning (parents Mak, Matt, or Matthew Twite and Mary Harrowing m 1695 in Scarning) to my line. But Scarning seems more likely to be connected to Great Dunham than Grimston to me, because it's 20 miles from Grimston - which seems a little too far? The older records than that on Ancestry change to spellings like Tyte or Tite before that - but as I say, I haven't checked these out myself. ( I've also got a Matthew Tite or Tyte baptised 1667 in St Mary South Walsham)
I wonder if a look at parish settlement certificates might clear this up?
RF Bullen and Grace Kent are my paternal grandparents John Bullen
