Biography

Lydia Tilden[1] was born 26 April 1658 in Marshfield, Plymouth colony to Thomas and Elizabeth (Bourne) (Waterman) Tilden. [2] [3]

The date of her marriage to Samuel Rider II is usually given as 14 June 1680. [4] However, Wakefield [5] remarks that the date is probably incorrect because it falls after the birth of the first child, Hannah. It's also notable that the cited place of her marriage differs from her place of residence.

In 1683, Lydia as a cousin is mentioned in William Crow's will.[6]

Lydia died in Plymouth on 17 September 1740, [7] and was buried in the old cemetery at Manomet, in Plymouth. "Mrs Lydia Rider Widdow of mr Samll Rider" died 17 Sepember, 1740, "in ye 83d year of her age."[8]

Pages 615-16 reference the will of Lydia's grandfather, Thomas Bourne. The will is worded somewhat oddly, but Jacobus provides a reasonable interpretation that Lydia is Thomas's grand-daughter. Pages 619-20 reference the will of Thomas Tilden, that provides a straightforward reference to Thomas Tilden's daughter, Lydia Rider, thus confirming that Lydia, the daughter of Thomas, is the same Lydia who married Samuel Rider.

The pages cited by Michele Rosa actually refer to the will of Lydia's *grand* father. Her father's will is discussed a few pages later. However, both are helpful in confirming not only Lydia's parentage but her marriage. The book also provides a date of death. I have made appropriate changes and provided references.

Tilden-459 and Tilden-156 appear to represent the same person because: Same birth date; both are daughters of Thomas; both are married to a Samuel Rider.
