William Threlkeld's will, King George Co., Virginia, dated 17 Jan 1766; probated 07 Aug 1766. In the name of God, Amen. I,William Threlkeld of the Parish of Brunswick in County of King George, being at this time in perfect sense and memory, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner following:
That is to say, first and principally, I recommend my soul to God that gave it hoping by the merits and mediation of my blessed Saviour, Jesus Christ, to receive full pardon of all my sins.
My body I commit to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executor hereafter named, and as for what wordly goods it hath pleased God to bestow on me I give as follows, that is to say:
Item, I give and bequeath to my loving son William Threlkeld one negro woman named Cate, to him and his heirs forever.
Item, It is my desire that if the said negro Cate bears a child after this date that my daughter, Elizabeth Humphrey, have it, but provided there is no child, then it is my desire that all my children bear an equal part of raise the sum of twenty-five pounds current money to be paid to my daughter Elizabeth Humphrey and her heirs forever.
Item, I give and bequeath to my loving son, John Threlkeld, a negro boy named Jo to him and his heirs forever.
Item, I give and bequeath to my loving son Benjamin Threlkeld one negro boy named Dick, to him and the heirs of his body lawfully begotten; for want of such heirs to be equally divided among all my children.
Item, I give to my son Stephen Threlkeld one negro boy named George to him and the heirs of his body lawfully begotten; for want of such heirs to be equally divided among all my children.
Item, I give and bequeath to my daughter Sukey Bell a negro girl named Murrer to her and the heir of her body lawfully begotten; for want of such heirs to my right heirs to be equally divided.
Item, I give and bequeath to my loving wife, Ruth Threlkeld, one sorrel mare, one desk, one feather bed, and furniture, two dishes, half dozen pewter plates, half dozen earthen D. so all the tea server, two sows, two cows, two ewes, one iron pot, and frying pan, and the great Bible.
Item, It is my desire that all my children shall pay her 3 pounds current money each, yearly, for her support and maintenance during her widowhood, and then to be equally divided among all my children, and as for what other estate I may have left, it is my desire at my decease it may be equally divided among all my children. The plantation whereon I now live at the day of division may be sold and the money arising to be equally divided among all my children.
Item, I give to my daughter, Jemima Humphrey, a cow and calf to her and her heirs forever. And lastly, I appoint my sons, James, William, George, and John Threlkeld, executors of this my last will and testament.[1]
