Biography

Joel S. Thrall (Eliphas, Samuel, John, John, Timothy, William) of Vermont, Quebec, and Ohio

Origin

Joel was born in 1792, the son of Eliphas Thrall and his wife, Mary (Mead).[citation needed] Between 1803 and 1815, the family lived at Underhill, Chitenden County, Vermont.[1]

Joel attended the University of Vermont in 1813 but stayed less than a year and received no degree.[1]

Marriages

Joel married on 19 February 1818, as his first, to Clarissa Dixon, eldest daughter of Luther Dixon.[1]

The family removed to Dunham Township, Quebec where their two sons were born. Clarissa fell ill after the birth of her second son. She was baptized on 16 April and died on 20 April 1821.[1]

Joel married on 22 October 1821, as his second, to Charlotte Pettis.[1]

Property and Problems with the Law

On 19 August 1817, Joel borrowed $50 from James Mead, and in 1820 he was sued by Mead for the debt. In 1821, Joel was ordered to pay $109.28 arrising from the same $50 debt to James Mead.[1]

Also in 1821, Joel received a license to practice medicine in Ohio.[1]
