Biography

Henrietta (Thornell) Payne is a part of US Black heritage.

Henrietta Thornton was born about 1858 in Alabama. Her parents are not known, and it is not known if she was born enslaved.

She married Bob Payne on 12 Nov 1875 in Bullock County, Alabama.^[1] Their known children:

The 1900 Census^[2] shows her at age 41, widowed, with eight children in Greenwood, Bullock County, Alabama. She is a farmer. This census states that she is the mother of 13 children with 10 still living. Her husband must have died recently, since her youngest daughter was born in Feb 1900.

The 1910 Census^[3] shows her at age 57, widowed, with five children in Greenwood, Bullock County, Alabama. She is a farmer. This census states that she is the mother of 15 children with 10 still living.

The 1920 Census^[4] shows her at age 62, widowed with three children in Pike Road, Montgomery County, Alabama. She has no occupation listed.

She died in 1942 (age 83) in Mitchell, Bullock County, Alabama.^[5]
