Archibald was born in 1761 at Campbeltown, Argyll to parents Neil Thomson & Jean Thomson[1]

The marriage of Archibald & Barbara, 'both of this parish', is recorded in the Campbeltown Parish Register, dated 29 July 1785. Barbara's surname was spelt McWilliam on this occasion. In the case of the family baptisms her surname was variously spelt as Williamson (on most occasions) but as William on John's & McWilliam on Archibald's.
