Biography

Lysander Thompson is a part of US Black heritage.

Lysander was born about 1845-1849. He was the son of Cara/Clarissa and William Thompson.

In the 1860 census, Lysander (age 12) was in Schoharie, Schoharie, New York, United States.^[1]

Lysander was in a military record on 17 December 1863 in Albany, Albany, New York, United States.^[2]

He mustered into the army as a volunteer at Riker's Island, New York Feb 27, 1864. He may have lied about his age, since his military records show his age as 19, but census records indicate he was 15 or 16.^[3]

He passed away in July of 1864, "death caused by gun shot wound in the heart," having served just a few months in the 26th US Colored Infantry.

Lysander's name is on the same headstone as his brothers, Lorenzo and George. The stone may have been erected years later, since Lysander's death date is off by two years.^[4]
