Obituary

Rev. Clyde Thompson, 80, went home to heaven on Monday, April 27, 1992 suddenly at his home in Douglas. He was born in a two-room cabin in Stone County, Mo.; the son of Ira and Louisa (Curbow) Thompson. This is in the heart of the beautiful Ozark Mountains known as the "Shepherd of the Hills" country. He grew up on a farm and took his place in a man's world when he was 12 years old. He stayed with his parents running the farm and doing carpenter work under the tutelage of his father and two uncles. He became a master carpenter and builder. At age 25, he answered God's call to the ministry, and preached two years in small churches and school houses in the Ozark Mountain country. At 27 he had a farm sale and left the old home place and entered school at Southwest Baptist College at Bolivar, Mo. He finished his four years of college at Drury College in Springfield, Mo. and in 1944 he enrolled in Central Baptist Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri graduating in 1947. In 1947, Clyde came to Douglas to accept the pastorate of the First Baptist Church where he served for 30 years, retiring in 1977. On Nov. 13, 1947 in Glenrock, he was married to Dolly Marit Taylor of Douglas. To this union were born two children, Richard and Cheryl. He is survived by his wife, Dolly, of Douglas; two children, Richard Thompson of Lexington, Ky. and Cheryl Peterson of Cheyenne; one brother, Glenn Thompson of Springfield, Mo.; and four grandchildren, Lisa Peterson of Douglas, Brenda Peterson of Cheyenne, Kelly Thompson of Dallas, Texas and Kevin Thompson of Lexington.^[14]
