Born in Ames, Iowa. Moved to Marshfield, Wi after stepfather's graduation from Iowa State with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Lived there until 1952 when dad decided he had had enough of industry and got a job with Allstate Insurance in management. Moved first to Highland Park, Illinois (just a few blocks of his childhood home) until the house was ready in Chicago 31, Illinois (think this is Maywood now). Went to St Eugene's from first to fourth grade then with dad's transfer to Royal Oak, Michigan, Shrine of the Little Flower. Bud was transferred yet again to the newly built home office in Northbrook, Illinois halfway through my eighth grade.
Graduated from West Northfield School then Glenbrook North High School where I lettered in football and tennis. Off to Western Illinois University without much direction and parted those halls of higher learning for the Navy in October 1966.
Went to San Diego for boot camp and Hospital Corps school then on to the naval hospital in Philadelphia for a year. In 1968 was assigned to Aviation Medicine "C" school in Pensacola and an extended stay at the Naval Aerospace Medical Insitute where I met my bride. Married in December 1969 and had our first child ten months later. Then off to sea on the USS Independence CVA-62 for three years. Daughter didn't know me (hid behind her mother after I got off one of my cruises) so out I went in 1973 to LaCrosse, Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. Worked at Gundersen Clinic in the Ophthamology Department for three years, went to school at night, then full time to graduate in 1979 with a degree in Chemistry. Our son was born in LaCrosse and with graduation, moved to Schaumburg, Illinois and worked at DeSoto Inc., then Glidden, Whittaker and Akzo Nobel in Birmingham, Alabama with a move to Alabaster, Alabama. Retired from Akzo but moved to Houston for a two year stint with Baker Hughes. Retired now but still active.

Winfred
Recorded in several spelling forms including Winney, Winny, Winfrey, and Winfred, this is an ancient surname of pre 7th century Olde English and Welsh-Celtic origins. It derives either from the female personal name 'Wyngeofu' meaning 'battle-joy', or 'Winfridd' meaning 'friend of peace', and later angicized as the personal name 'Winifred'. Surnames from female personal names are much less numerous than surnames from male names, but they do form quite a large grouping. A female surname or metronymic usually indicates that the derivation of the original name was as a result of either the mother being a widow before the child was born, or that she was an heiress in her own right, and wished to pass on the succession in her own name. In the case of this surname it is first recorded in the county of Suffolk in the form of Robert Wyneue. He appears in the Subsidy Tax Rolls for Suffolk in 1327, with Thomas Wyndyff being recorded in the same county in 1479. Other later recordings taken from authentic surviving rolls and church registers include: Thomas Wynnye in the lists known as the 'Musters of Norfolk' in 1577, Henry Winfree who married Diana Filback at St Leonards church, Shoreditch, London, on August 11th 1783, and Ann Winfrey, the daughter of Henry Winfrey, who was christened at the church of St Martins in the Field, Westminster, on March 20th 1791. Whether this is the same 'Henry' we are uncertain. Another recording showing a further and later development of the surname, is that of William Winfred, a witness at St Martins in the Field, on February 6th 1858.

Hi Kern! I just wanted to let you know that I added sources and categories (and am working on adding family members) to one of your profiles, for Alwine Wilhelmine Bleck, Bleck-58, as part of a one place study that I'm working on for the church her family attended in Black Creek, Outagamie, Wisconsin, prior to her marriage. Please let me know if you have any concerns or questions. Have a great holiday!

Not directly but have been adding to ancestors of Virginia and South Carolina. Don't look at these much because I don't look at my page. Sorry for the delay.

We have several things in common, but they go way back. For example, Magna Carta Surety Barons. I too am related to all the ones listed on Wiki-Tree. My family has a strong military history and helped form this nation.
Thank you for your service. I look forward to learning from and working with you as I'm new on the Builder's team.
