Biography

Ruby Thomas was born on January 9, 1916, in Wynne, Arkansas. Her father, John T Thomas, was 24 years old and her mother, Leva Newsom, was 19 years old at the time of her birth. Ruby had several siblings: John L, Jesse, William H, Ohal, Buman, Louis O, and Roy.

On January 9, 1934, Ruby married Elmer Ivy in Jackson, Arkansas. She was 18 years old at the time. The couple had two children during their marriage: Lola Mae Ivy, born on October 28, 1934 in Arkansas and Norma Dean Ivy born in 1946 in California.

Ruby lived in several places throughout her life. In 1920 she lived in Cow Lake, Arkansas and in 1930 she lived in Hickory Ridge, Arkansas. In 1935 she lived in Wilson, Arkansas and in 1940 she lived in Lewis Twp, Lewis, New Madrid, Missouri. In 1950 she lived in Stanislaus, California and in 1951 she lived in Michigan.

Ruby and Elmer Ivy were divorced on June 14, 1963 after being married for 29 years. Ruby’s mother Leva passed away on September 10, 1964 at the age of 68 and her father John T passed away on January 9, 1967 at the age of 75. Her daughter Lola Mae passed away on December 2, 1996 at the age of 62.

Ruby Thomas passed away on January 3, 2003 at the age of 86.
