Biography

William Thomas was born in Cardiganshire, Wales.

Birth

William, son of Thomas ap William was born at Brynpedr, Y Ferwig in Cardiganshire.[1]

Marriage

William married firstly Elizabeth Roger on the 25th of March 1769 at Y Ferwig (Verwick), Cardiganshire, Wales. Together they had several children.^[1] He married secondly Mary, (surname unknown) and together had issue.

Burial & will

He passed away circa 1814 and his tomb is assumed to be in the parish of Y Ferwig as his first wife Elizabeth is buried in St. Pedrog's cemetery, Y ferwig. [2]
His will is dated 1814 in which he bequeaths property to his 'present' wife Mary and his children, William, James, Thomas, John, Evan, Elizabeth, Mary and Rachel. The will indicates Rachel as the daughter of William's previous wife due to items bequeathed to her that were previously belonging to Rachel's mother. It is likely that William's son Thomas is also the son of his previous wife (Elizabeth) as Thomas was born during 1796 just prior to Elizabeth's death in 1799. ^[2]

David Richard a Merchant from Cardigan, Samuel Jones a Gent. from Cardigan and William Williams a farmer of Bolafronn, Y Ferwig were made Guardians to his children.

William is recorded in his father's will dated 1779 along with his siblings, John, James, Ann, Katherine, Elizabeth, Mary and Rachel.

Brynpedr, Y Ferwig

It is evident from will records that some of Thomas ap William's children adopted William(s) as their surname where others adopted Thomas.

Brynpedr also known as Bryn farm was passed onto William's brother John Williams, will dated 1830. John's son Josiah Williams married into the Davies family of the neighbouring farm Towyn (Tywyn), Y Ferwig, the historical seat of the Lords of Towyn.
