It's clear that Samuel, Elizabeth and Frederick arrived on the Buckinghamshire. I'll add notes to Samuel's profile. Mary Dunstan has been recorded as arriving on the Abberton in 1846 as well as the Buckinghamshire in error.

A mystery solved.

I've Just found a birth registration of Stephen Thomas, son of Samuel Williams Thomas and Mary Dunstan: Given Name(s): Stephen Last Name: THOMAS Birth Date: 1853, June 12 Gender: M Father: Samuel Williams THOMAS Mother: Mary DUNSTAN Birth Place/Residence: North Adelaide District: Adelaide Symbol: Book/Page: 4/162

It is now clearer that the ship list note of Samuel Thomas and wife Mary Dunstan is an attempt to identify the ship that these parents arrived on. This Samuel Williams Thomas is a different person to our ancestor. I'm more confident the shipping list note is wrong.
