Biography

She was baptised on 8 Oct 1899 in the Dutch Reformed Church Paarl.[1] She was quite a short person with a loving personality. She played the piano and painted paintings until her painting tools were stolen. She used to say, "als voor 1900 is goeie goed", since she was born before 1900! She suffered from epileptic fits from time to time. Her daughter, Alma Malan, related how she one night awoke from a very deep sleep and she heared the stangest noises. She didn't know what was going on until she realized that it is her mother having an epileptic fit. The doctor had to come and gave her an injection before it subsided. She saw Halley's comet in 1910 and again in 1986. She died 10 days before her 90th birthday when an aneurism of her aorta burst which she had for many years. In those days they could not do much about it so they just left it as is.[2]
