Personal acquaintance. Gravestone. She raised my father. She was like a grandmother to me. Census records. Marriage records. Death record. I remember her well.
Aunt Isa was very short, less than 5 feet tall. Her husband Bob towered over her, even though he wasn't unusually tall. Yet she ruled the roost. Bob, a locomotive engineer had to give up his politics for her. When word got out he subscribed to The Daily Worker (a communist paper) it was bad for business for at her beauty salon.
She and Bob raised my father, after the judge issued a custody order. Grandma moved to California and Dad said he and brother Ray were hungry so they went into yards and picked oranges off the trees at night.
