Thomas Henry Terrill was an enterprising Cornishman. He was christened 19 Jun 1833 in Redruth, Cornwall [1]. He may have also been born in Redruth. He attended school for one day[2]. In Cornwall, he worked as a tin miner, even at the age of 8 [3] He emigrated to the United States in 1847. He worked as a coal miner near Newcastle, Pennsylvania. In 1887, he founded Terrill and Sons General Store in Colchester, Illinois, along with his three sons. Upon his death, the store passed to his sons Henry and David, and was renamed Terrill Brothers [4].
