Oxford Times Newspaper did a article on James for his Obituary. James fought in the Mexican War and entered "the City of Mexico with the Victorious Army Under General Scott."
"Deceased was the son of William and Esther Terrel, and was born in the residence which is now part of the St. James Hotel May 8, 1826. He is survived by his wife, Alinda Crannell, whom he married Feb. 15 1852, and four children, James of Sidney, Carl of Afton, Edward of Oxford, and Mrs. Charles Cole of Castle Creek."
