Biography

Vincent Nicholas Terranova is born 30 May 1920, based on self-report.[1]

Vincent is the youngest child of Vincenzo "Vincent the Tiger" Terranova and his wife, Bernarda Reina. The Terranova family lives with Vincenzo's brother, Ciro "The Artichoke King" Terranova, sister Dora, their spouses and children, and their mother, Angela Piazza. Ciro, Dora's husband Ignazio Lupo, and Vincenzo are among the leadership of a Mafia gang in New York City's East Harlem neighborhood.

Vincent's father is killed in 1922 and his mother dies in 1924.

Vincent and his two older sisters are adopted by their uncle, Ciro. Vincent and his cousin, Bernard, attend a military academy to hide them from potential assassins.[2]

In the 1925 New York state census, taken 1 June, at 338 East 116th St., Ciro Terranova, 36 (b. 1889), heads a household with his wife, children, BIL Ignazio Lupo and his wife Dora, their children, Ciro’s mother Angela Terranova, and Angelina Terranova, 11 (b. 1914), niece; Josephine Terranova, (nephew, male), 8 (b. 1917); and Vincent Terranova, nephew, 5 (b. 1920).[3]

In the 1930 federal census of Pelham Manor, in Westchester County, New York, Ciro Terranova, age 40 (b. 1890), heads a household with his wife and children. It appears that Vincent and Bernarda's children are listed among Ciro and Tessie's as their own: Angie, 17 (b. 1913), Angelie (one of Vincent's children), 16 (b. 1914), Vernon (actually, Bernard), 14 (b. 1916), Josephine (another of Vincent's children), 13 (b. 1917), Anna, 12 (b. 1918), Vincent (nephew, son of the late Vincent), 9 (b. 1921), Norma, 6 (b. 1924), and Bessie, 2 (b. 1938). Ciro is an artichokes importer.[4][5]

In 1934, Ciro's sister, Josephine, marries Salvatore Ciccone.

Ciro dies in 1938.

In the 1940 census, Vincent lives with his older sister, Angela, and her husband on 219th Street in the Bronx.

In the 1940 federal census of the Bronx, Salvatore Lascala, 34 (b. 1906), a self-employed upholsterer, heads a household at 755 East 219th St. with his wife Angela, 25 (b. 1915), their 2 children Rosalia, 2 (b. 1938), and Rosario, 1 (b. 1939), and Salvatore’s brother-in-law, Vincent Terranova, 19 (b. 1921), a new worker. Everyone in the household was born in New York.[6]

In October 1940, Salvatore La Scala registers for the draft for WWII, giving a new address on Esplanade in the Bronx. The same address appears on Vincent's 1951 draft registration, where he names his brother-in-law as his contact person.

Vincent N. Terranova, born in 1920 in New York, enlists for the duration of the war on 4 March 1942 at Cp Upton, Yaphank, NY. He has had 3 years of high school. He is a semiskilled chauffeur/driver.[7]

Vincent marries Immaculatta P. Ciccone, Salvatore's sister, in Manhattan on 3 January 1948.[8] Immacolata is the daughter of Sebastiano Ciccone and Gelsomina Piccolo.[9] She is called Margaret or Margie in later records.

Vincent and Margie have at least two children, Bernadette (1949) and Vincent (1951), named after Vincent's parents.

Bernadette is born 13 May 1949.[10]

Vincent, the son, is born 30 April 1951.[11]

Vincent Nicholas Terranova registers for the draft for WWII on 1 July 1951. He lives at 1108 Westchester Esplanade, Bronx, NY. He is 21, born 30 May 1920 in New York. He works as a chauffeur for Cina Trucking Co., Frank Cina, owner, 928 E. 217th St., Bronx. His contact person is Salvatore La Scala at 1108 Westchester Esplanade, Bronx, NY. Vincent is 5’8” and 150# with brown eyes and hair and a dark complexion.[1]

Margie dies 9 January 2005[9][12] She is 81.

Public records from the 1990s and 2000s place Vincent, Margie, and their children at 1025 Whitestone Expy, Whitestone, Queens, New York.[10][11][13][14][15][16]
