William Taylor b. Feb 27,1744 Monmouth Cty New Jersey, d Apr 24, 1830 in Bainbridge, Ross Cty. Ohio. William Taylor served as a private and wagon-master in Capt. Bateucau (spelling could be Bateman, or Batemeur?) Lloyd's Company, 2 Regt. of New Jersey Continental Line--served from 1778 when the 2nd was organized to 1783 when it was disbanded. Ref: 1958 Linage book, Cincinnati, O Chapter S A R , pp 57,58. 4th, p299 and 58th N S D A R Reports. Roster 1 p 364. Captain William Taylor, Was a native Englishman, who came to the shores of New Jersey at sixteen years of age. Subsequently, William Taylor joined the Federal Army and served as an officer throughout the Revolutionary struggle, and later, drifted to the state of Kentucky, where he became the owner of slaves. But soon becoming averse to the institution of slavery. After disposing of a portion of his slaves, he removed to Ross County, Ohio, with the balance, where he gave them their freedom. Note regarding birth date. There are sources for both William and his sister Sarah but these sources conflict. William born in February and Sarah born in May. This was not possible.
