Biography

Georges Tardif was born on January 19, 1841 in Rimouski, Canada East, son of Ambroise Tardif (1809–1867) and Claire Dubé (1813–1844).

Georges married Victoria Barriault on 30 Oct 1871. They had seven known children:

1. Jean Baptiste Tardif (about 1872- )
2. Denis Tardif (1874- )
3. Angele Tardif (about 1876- )
4. Rosana Tardif (about 1879- )
5. Marie Sophie Tardif (1882- )
6. Louis-Philippe Tardif, (1884- )
7. Marie Antoinette Tardif (1887- )

During the 1881 Canada Census Georges (36) is living with his wife Victoria (31) and five of their children (Jean-Baptiste (8), Denis (6), Angele (4), Rosana (1), and Genevieve (10)) in Cherbourg, Quebec, Canada. ^[1]

Georges married Philomene Leclerc on 27 Apr 1888 at the Saint Norbert Church in Cap-Chat, Quebec, Canada shortly after his first wife's passing on 13 Jun 1888 at the age of 39.^[2]

During the 1891 Canada Census Georges (48) is living with his new wife Philomene (52), four of her children (Aurore (25), Malvina (23), Oliva (21), Chrysostome (15)) from her prior marriage as well as his seven children from his prior marriage (Jean-Baptiste (18), Denis (16), Angele (14), Rosana "Rose" (11), Marie (9), Louis (7), and Antoinette (4)) in Rimouski, Quebec, Canada. ^[3]

Georges died on June 10, 1909 in Cap-Chat-Est, Cap-Chat, Gaspé-Ouest, Quebec, Canada, at the age of 67.^[4]

Georges was buried on 12 Jun 1909 in the St Paul Cemetery (Capucins Cemetary) in les Capucins. ^[4]

Research Notes

1. Children: Those added to the above list came from Census records, as well as those found on Nos Origines profile. Found an entry for a burial of Jean Baptiste Tardif on 18 Jul 1902 (death the day prior 17 Jul 1902) in Saint-Edouard-de-les Méchins church records. Not sure if it is him, seems to indicate so but not 100% certain.^[5] Chouinard-2225 14:56, 23 February 2024 (UTC)
