Sarah attended Buffalo schools and was the only African-American student in her graduating class on June 22, 1911. She attended the New England Conservancy, graduating June 22, 1915. She was a music teacher and composer.
Sarah married Harry Sanderline Keelan December 6, 1916, in Buffalo, New York. They lived in LaSalle, New York, with their daughter Mary Yvette Keelan. In 1920 she toured across Europe with the National Council of Women en route to the International Council.[5] She sailed back to New York on the SS Lapland, arriving October 23, 1920.[6] Sarah and Harry had divorced by 1940.
She was patient at the Erie County Home and Infirmary when she died January 15, 1987.[7] She was buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Buffalo, Erie County, New York.[8]
