In 1900, he lived in Moundville, Vernon County, Missouri. He lived with his grand parents Thomas and Mariam Bennett. He had a younger sister living in the home, Lulu Swafford. His parents were not present and presumed dead.^[2]

Hiram married Nellie C. Honea on December 25, 1904 in Franklin County, Arkansas.^[3]

He had six children (daughter Dora Ruthie Jane born in 1905, daughter Bonnie Ellen born in 1907, son Roy Andrew born in 1909, son Troy Monroe born in 1912, son William Argle born in 1914, and son Oscar Steve born in 1918).^[4]
