Murilla / Mariley was born in 1851, the daughter of Wiley A. Surgnier (1826 - 1879). She passed away in 1917, and was buried at Bethel Cemetery, Gravette, Benton County, Arkansas.[1]
CHERRY, Mariley E. SURGINER Bookout – Mrs. J.E. Cherry died at her home south of Gravette Sunday, Jan. 14, 1917 following a sickness of several week's duration. Mariley E. Surginer was born at Rock Comfort, Mo. April 2, 1851. Moved to Texas at the age of 10 years and five years later moved to Arkansas. She was married to Louis Bookout Jan. 24, 1867. Four children were born to this union, all of whom survive: Fredonia Carr, living near Gravette; Wm. Bookout, Pea Ridge; Fay Smith, Decatur; Albert Bookout, Keystone, Okla. Mr. Bookout died July 8, 1880 and she was married to J.E. Cherry Nov. 3, 1887 who survives her. Mrs. Cherry was converted at the age of 60 years, untied with the Christian church of which she was a faithful member. She was a faithful companion and mother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The funeral services were conducted at Bethel Monday by J.E. Teaney, pastor of Gravette Christian church, and burial was made in the Bethel cemetery. Those from a distance, besides her children, who attended the funeral were Wiley Surginer and wife, Francis, Okla.; Mr. and Mrs. Wallace McKenzie, Jane, Mo.; John Cherry and family, Maysville and Charley Cherry of Texas.[2]
