Anna's parents were Christian Stutzman and Barbara Hostetler. Barbara was the daughter of Jacob Hostetler, and was married and living "down the lane" when her mother and two young siblings were killed during the 1757 Hostetler Massacre. A story of the Stutzman family states that Christian and his brother Jacob survived the ocean voyage with their father (all others died). Their father left the boys to serve out time in indentured service, which paid for his travels back to Europe, never to return. Two young boys, left alone in a new world. Immigration is hard
